Haven't posted for a couple of weeks, but I have been (somewhat ironically) been making far more out of Auckland than i did in the big smoke of London. I am ashamed to say i never got to the British Library or the British Museum for example in all my 8 years there. So, i've been determined to get out and see as much of what Auckland can throw at me art wise for the first year!
To this end, Annabel and I last week went to a dance spectacle of the Sydney Dance Company called "Underworld" with the music by Nick Cave. It was sort of like posh goth dance. There was film screens behind the dancers showing apocolyptic mushroom clouds and the whole thing was really quite impressive. I haven't got the faintest clue about dance, but i have to say i really enjoyed it, but am not sure why.
Then last weekend, we went to the Auckland Art Galleries (they have an older more classic one and a new one, a bit like the Tate Britian and Modern, but much smaller obviously!).
It was great to see some of the famous New Zealand artists although i didn't really get colin mccahon's work at all, sorry. I did like a piece which had a set of human skulls that were made out of the same materials and colours as a set of colourful Apple IMacs, but then that appeals to the geek in me;)
