A great irony has occurred. I downloaded the IE 7 Beta release and it was so bad, and i mean terrible, that i swithced to Firefox permanently because i couldn't get back to IE 6! Plus, this damned blog doesn't work in anything but IE (not IE 7) so i have to sort something out...
Anyway, compared to last year, Auckland is experiencing a bit of a end of winter start of spring heat wave and it's been lovely going house hunting, although the neighbours do look a bit dodgy.
Where the house is we're currently looking at below, second viewing (first for Annabel) on Wednesday. It looks like there's a train line next to it, but it's actually a big long gully along that green bit. I've lived under 2 train lines before in Hackney, London so am keen not to repeat that experience. The train station is about a 12 min walk from the house (along to the left of the black line from the arrows), and it takes 8 mins to get to Britomart in central Auckland. I reckon i can get in within 30 minutes without having to drive a car or get a bus. Not many bus lanes in Auckland so you can easily get stuck for ages.
Not many people seem to use public transport here, although they moan about how crap it is a lot. Strange for a country with such a green and clean image. Anyway, there's a nice cemetry to go for long walks and contemplate the finite nature of existence and gain perspective on the nooks and crannies of day to day existence. I'm almost tempted to get my Smith's tshirt back on, take my geetar and pen some tracks about the monotony and pointlessness of suburban existence.
